A Year of Beautiful Retreats — and What’s Coming in 2027

Dear friends,

As we settle into autumn, I’ve been reflecting on the wonderful moments I shared with guests at Macdonald’s Farm in Porthcothan and Tremeer Farm, near Fowey, this year — the laughter around the campfire, the un-rushed morning yoga sessions, trundles along coastal Cornwall, shared meals, and the sense of community that made these weekend retreats feel so special.

What Is Retreat life like for guests?

One of the most beautiful aspects of retreat life is how it gives us something so rare in our daily routines: a quiet pause to step away from the noise without losing connection with ourselves. Guests so often share how much they treasure that gentle balance between movement and stillness. We make space to move, explore, and share, alongside quiet moments to breathe, rest, and just be. Away from everyday responsibilities and busy schedules, a lovely sense of spaciousness unfolds, allowing you to reconnect with what truly matters.

What makes these weekends feel so magical is the wonderful community that grows in just a few short days. It always warms my heart to watch strangers become a warm, supportive circle of friends. Whether over shared meals, un-rushed morning sessions, gentle walks, or evenings around the campfire, these shared moments create heartfelt connections that linger long after we head home. Being surrounded by like-minded souls offers a deep sense of belonging, warmth, and quiet encouragement.

Our time together also gives you space to immerse yourself in yoga without any sense of hurry. With longer sessions and quiet moments for reflection, you can explore your practice far more deeply than in a standard weekly class. Beyond the mat, guests head home with renewed vitality, fresh perspectives, a restored sense of wellbeing, and a deeper love for life’s simple joys. This gentle blend of movement, nature, rest, and connection makes retreat life so deeply restorative.

Tremeer Farm Highlights…

This retreat reminded me why I love hosting nature‑immersive weekends—the simplicity, fresh air, connection, wide-open spaces, and big skies. I’ve included a few images below to capture the magic we shared:

Portugal — May 16–23, 2027

I just spent a week in Monchique, the mountain town in Portugal, where I am hosting my first overseas retreat in May 2027.

Guests will stay at Vilafoia, an eco‑retreat in the Monchique mountains, for a 6‑night journey into yoga, meditation, swimming, wildlife, wellness talks, nature, and deep rest. This retreat is luxurious, soulful, and immersed in the beauty of the Sierra de Monchique mountains.

Springtime in the mountains of Monchique, Portugal

Spring in the Monchique mountains is one of the most rewarding times of year to explore this quieter, greener part of the Algarve.

In May, the slopes around Vilafoia are at their best — green, fragrant, and alive with birdsong. This environment naturally supports rest, reflection, and wellbeing, making it an ideal setting for the 6-night yoga and wellness retreat.

Monchique's flora is particularly distinctive because of the region’s altitude and humidity. Spring brings a wide range of wildflowers and mountain vegetation into bloom. Rhododendron ponticum appears in purple clusters along higher paths, mimosa brightens the hillsides with yellow blossom, and cistus flowers open in white, pink, and yellow across the slopes. Lavender, rosemary, and other wild herbs release their scent as you walk, and the medronheiro — the Strawberry Tree — is a familiar sight throughout the region. The mountains also hold ancient oak species, including the rare Carvalho‑de‑Monchique, which contributes to the area’s unique ecological character.

Birdlife is especially active at this time of year. The varied vegetation and elevation create habitats for both resident and migratory species. Bonelli’s eagles and short‑toed snake eagles sometimes circle high above the valleys, while nightingales, warblers, finches, and robins fill the mornings with song. Swifts and swallows sweep across the sky, and butterflies move between the wildflowers. Even a short walk from Vilafoia offers opportunities to hear and observe birds moving through the forest and open slopes, making the area especially enjoyable for anyone who appreciates nature.

Monchique's habitat is diverse, ranging from evergreen forest to herb‑rich open slopes. Streams and riparian corridors support ferns, water plants, and small freshwater species, while terraced farmland and orchards sit closer to the villages. This variety creates a landscape that is both peaceful and interesting to explore. Gentle mountain trails offer a mix of shaded woodland, open viewpoints, and quiet pockets of vegetation, providing plenty of opportunities for mindful walking and time outdoors.

May's climate is comfortable and supports both activity and rest. Daytime temperatures usually range from 18 to 24°C, with cooler evenings and fresh mountain breezes. It’s warm enough to enjoy long periods outside, but not too hot for hiking or exploring the surrounding area.

During our retreat, we’ll make the very most of this environment. Time outdoors will be woven naturally into the week — late morning hikes, moments to pause and listen to birds, and opportunities to breathe in the herbal mountain air. Nature in Monchique isn’t just a backdrop; it actively supports wellbeing. The landscape encourages the body to unravel and unwind, helps the mind settle, and offers a sense of spaciousness that complements yoga, meditation, and rest.

What to expect in Portugal:

• Daily yoga + meditation + wellness talks

• Guided nature hikes and springtime wildlife

• Nourishing food using local produce

• Mountain views from sunrise to sunset

• Time to breathe, explore, and rejuvenate body and mind

Whether you join me in Cornwall or Portugal next year, I would love to welcome you into a retreat that supports your yoga practice, your health and wellbeing, and brings a real sense of community and connection to nature.

With love,

Lucy‑Ann 🌿

WHAT PEOPLE SAY

Kate Bickford

"I thought I’d done yoga before but it is a whole new wonderful experience with Lucy-Ann. I absolutely love her classes. Her knowledge is immense, not just of the yoga postures, but combined with her anatomical knowledge she is fabulously equipped to help advanced or complete beginners."

Donna Petterson

"Lucy-Ann's yoga classes are exceptional. Her knowledge, care and teaching experience provide reassurance, guidance and encouragement. I started with no yoga experience whatsoever, and now, 4 years in, yoga has become a vital part of my life, self-care, fitness and wellbeing. She is truly an inspirational Yoga Teacher."

Dr Rhys Bullman

"I thought stiff joints were  just part of ageing, but when I began to struggle with simply bending down and doing my shoelaces up, I knew I had to do something. I found yoga, and have never looked back. Lucy-Ann's classes are both challenging and wonderfully satisfying. Her teaching, and attention to all her students is commendable."
